Cold Sores, also known as fever blisters, are cause by
herpes simplex virus 1 or HSV-1. Do not think that cold sores
are sexually transmitted just because it is caused by a herpes
virus. The herpes simplex virus 1 is different from genital
herpes although they are somewhat related.
Cold sores are very contagious thus they are very common.
When exposed to the virus, cold sores do not necessarily come
out at once. Usually, the virus can stay and lie dormant in the
body and cause cold sores when triggered by fever or other
viral infection. Though going to the doctor for treatment is a
sound option, there are home remedies for cold sores that are
effective and yet inexpensive. Here are some examples.
